Independent Insurance Agents Foundation of San Antonio

Last summer the IIASA was presented with an incredible opportunity to form a nonprofit organization to show high schools, universities, and veterans all the opportunities within the insurance industry! On Wednesday, April 4, 2018, just one day before our trade fair, we received a letter from the IRS with our 501(c)(3) approval! 

The IIAFSA is a separate charitable organization, separate from the Association, that's purpose is purely educational. The specifics of what we do are stated below:

Mission Statement: IIAFSA has been organized to provide educational programs to the general public. More specifically, the organization will provide educational programs to individuals, focusing on high school students and veterans, regarding the insurance industry as well as the skills and training necessary to become an independent insurance agent. By providing these educational programs, IIAFSA will help to improve individuals’ chances for success in life.

The activity furthers the following exempt purpose: Educational Advancement. The organization will provide educational programs to youths and adults throughout the San Antonio, Texas community regarding the insurance industry as well as helping individuals to identify the skills and possible career paths needed to become an independent insurance agent. 

Independent insurance agents typically sell a variety of insurance and financial products. These individuals usually are very well trained and knowledgeable of the complexities of the insurance market and law. Their expertise allows them to advise their clients about appropriate amounts of insurance and insurance coverages for their particular needs. Unfortunately, learning about this type of career path, as well as learning and mastering the skills involved, can be difficult for those interested in becoming an independent agent. IIAFSA has been organized to provide educational programs on these topics to youths and adults throughout its community.

These programs will cover a variety of topics including, but not limited to, general information about the insurance field, the skills necessary to becoming a successful independent insurance agent, and the benefits if pursuing a career in this field. The organization will focus on providing educational information to students as well as to minorities and veterans making the transition into civilian life.

These programs will be held at local high schools, universities, community colleges, and at donated space by local professionals in the insurance community. IIAFSA will also provide educational programs at local career fairs and events and at military bases in the local area in order to reach individuals who may not be able to travel to attend sessions. The organization will provide educational materials that will help individuals interested in pursuing a career as an independent insurance agent to be able to find and access resources for additional education and career opportunities.

The organization will also provide benevolent assistance to individuals in financial need throughout the area who wish to take additional courses through other programs in order to pursue a career as an independent insurance agent. these distributions will be paid directly to the service provider on behalf of the educational foundation. Distributions will be made throughout the year as needs are identified and assessed and as funding is available. The board of directors shall coordinate with any other agencies that may provide specific requested needs to eliminate duplication of assistance and replication of services. The organization will assist as many families as may be possible, depending upon availability of acquired funds. The IIAFSA Board of Directors understands and agrees to comply with IRS guidelines regarding the affairs and finances of the organization, specifically fiscal accountability and of all contributed funds.

IIAFSA will offer its educational programs free of charge to all interested individuals throughout the San Antonio, Texas community and the surrounding area. By providing these educational programs, to organization will help individuals to identify a potential career path and begin earning the skills necessary to becoming successfully in that chosen career, therefore improving their quality of life. 

The approval of our nonprofit is a giant step forward for the San Antonio insurance industry and also for the broader goal of educating and developing a younger workforce to prepare them for the insurance industry.
