The Mission Statement of the IIAFSA reads – The IIAFSA has been organized to provide educational programs to the public. More specifically, to the insurance industry, with the skills and training necessary to become an independent insurance agent. By providing these education programs, the IIAFSA will help improve the chances of individuals seeking a career in the insurance industry. The IIASA was started over 105 years ago. In early 2018, the IIASA created a 501c3 charity to provide scholarship and endowment funds to educate and train high school and college students and military veterans to become successful in Risk Management and Insurance careers.
In the year 2020, there will be over 400,000 jobs available in risk management and insurance due to the retirement of many baby boomers who are opting for an early retirement in the middle of a growing market. Shortages are expected in both Property and Casualty and Employee Benefits. To avoid this great void in our industry, we must start the process now of education and training. We see an opportunity to recruit high school and college students and veterans who are transitioning out of the military to fill the void.
Your Foundation has already made great strides in this effort with contacts that will help us develop our educational programs. Our contacts include:
Robert Crosby, Executive Director of the IIASA has been chosen to join the newly formed St. Mary’s Risk Management Advisory Board for the next two years.
Chris Prewit and Robert Crosby have acted as speakers and advisors to the Business Department for the past two years.
We have already placed two UTSA students in interim positions. Both had a very successful experience with our agent members.
Robert Crosby, former Development Board chair and current Development Board member since 2005.
With the new leadership at UIW, we have connected with UIW’s newly formed Department of Career Service.
The National Alliance is considered the gold standard for insurance and risk management studies throughout the world. This IIAFSA is collaborating with the National Alliance in establishing a high school Career and Technology Education curriculum school insurance program in conjunction with the Texas Education Agency.
Cedrick “Doc” Brown USN (Ret) is the Founder of the Military Transition Network. We are working with Mr. Brown to connect with veterans who are leaving the military and entering the civilian work force.
The vision of the IIAFSA is to be a part of filling the 400,000 jobs that will become available in 2020. We want to create a rifle focus about educating our local high school and college students and veterans about the risk management and insurance industry. There is a lot of misinformation about the insurance industry. We will accomplish that effort by providing the student with scholarship dollars for a risk management and insurance curriculum. This is our “call to action”! We need your donations to put this plan in motion by creating working capital and setting up scholarships and endowments. Your donations will make a difference in the future of our industry. Please follow us on our website at www.iiasanantonio.org/iiafsa or give us a call if you have any questions or would like to volunteer to help spread the word about the Independent Insurance Agents Foundation of San Antonio.
